A presentation of Dr. Boyd's "Sympathetic Tension-Migraine Cycle"

Starting at the top-middle, high intensity nocturnal muscle contraction perpetuates a chronic myofascial dysfunction. The chronically dysfunctional musculature provides an enviroment where sensitized Spindles can reside indefinitely. Sympathetic innervation (common known as a "trigger" to migraineurs) allows the intrafusal Spindle fibers to contort and/or spasm, resulting in exquist (migrainous) pain. The perpetual nocturnal muscular activity maintains the Spindular sensitization (or may be a result of sympathetic hyper-activity to begin with!).
